Big Charity Day 2018

Charlotte Mulvanerty -

June saw the return of an event that is renowned, unique and spectacular in many ways, our Big Charity Day. Oh, and the Football World Cup too.

On Thursday 28th June, the travel industry joined together to celebrate the amazing work that we do, fundraise so that we can continue our support, and also spread awareness of the help we provide.

Each year we have a different theme, and this year it was all about the beautiful game of football. The sun was shining, there were celebrations in the streets, and we all believed that #ItsComingHome; it was the most perfect setting for our day of putting the fun into fundraising.

ABTA kicked the celebrations off a few days early, with footie taking over the office. There was a games room featuring table top football games in one room and pizza for sale with the Brazil vs Costa Rica game on the big screen in another. The fun continued with delicious treats in our football themed bake off. A Russian Sharlotka cake was the winner, creatively bringing in the World Cup theme with Russia hosting the tournament.

The rest of the industry followed on, showing their support for LifeLine and their favourite Football team. There was #WaistcoatWednesday day, with everyone stealing the iconic style of Gareth Southgate, and football shirts took over as the united uniform of the industry with many wearing their favourite team’s colours for the day.

Our Freestyle Challenge had colleagues battling against each other. Our judges wanted to see skill, style and silliness, and they got it all. From multiple keepie uppies to weird and wonderful locations, it was an interesting watch.

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone that got involved this year. Not only have you been amazingly generous and supportive, you have also spread the word to those who need us.
