ABTA LifeLine Manchester Dinner 2018

Charlotte Mulvanerty -

As the sun shone over the Salford Quays, everyone was left thinking “tonight this could be the greatest night of our lives”. Well, of course it would be, they were guests at our Manchester Dinner after all.

Wednesday 4th July, guests from around the travel industry left the hot sun, and the temptation to dive in the Quays fully clothed, and came to The Lowry Theatre for a night of food, fun and fundraising. Following on from the success of last year’s Manchester Dinner, LifeLine’s first in the region, we knew we had to come back bigger and better. From a small dinner at a boutique hotel, to more guests, more food, bigger auction prizes, a band and an art gallery, we really did step our game up.

We started the evening off with a bubbly reception and private gallery tour, with experts on hand to show guests the artwork by L S Lowry. As fascinating as the artwork was, the gallery was also popular for the air con, a luxury on such a warm day.

Guests were then shown to the dinner hall; a stunning 360⁰ room with floor to ceiling windows, and a veranda for guests to watch the sunset over Media City. Trudie, our Director, welcomed everyone, explaining how much all of their support meant to the amazing applicants that we help every day.  Once everyone had tucked into their 3 courses and wine, Derek Jones, our Chairman, kicked off our auction. With prizes such as a 7 night Cruise and an all-inclusive holiday to Antigua, there were hands popping up all over the room. Derek then announced the 2 lucky winners of our raffle, taking home a Gin Tasting & Tour, and also attraction tickets.

Then came the big stars of the night, Double Take That. They sounded and performed their moves just like the real band, and if you squinted your eyes they looked just like them too. The classic tunes had everyone up on their feet dancing, with the highlight being many of us stood in a semicircle, hands in the air, belting out “Never Forget”.

It was a truly fantastic evening, and we couldn’t have done it without the support and generosity of our amazing industry. Thank you so much to everyone who was involved, and we can’t wait to see you there again next year.
