ABTA LifeLine Annual Dinner
Trudie Drake -
On Thursday 17 September the great and the good from the travel industry descended on The Royal Air Force Club for the fourth ABTA LifeLine dinner.
The evening started with pre dinner drinks in the Victoria Bar after which people went upstairs to the beautiful ballroom for a night of food, fun and fundraising!
Entertainment was supplied by the amazing magician Mark Williams who wowed guests with his magic. How did he pull a playing card out of a mobile phone?
During the evening Sidney Perez, our recently retired Chairman, was presented with a beautiful scroll to mark his 65 years in the travel industry and his tireless support and commitment to ABTA LifeLine.
We also launched our new special fundraising campaign, 'Let's make a noise for Charlie'. Our appeal is to help raise £15000 to support little baby Charlie who has bilateral vocal cord palsy.
Following a scrumptious dinner of roast sirloin of beef or spinach and ricotta ravioli, the best auctioneer in the travel industry, Derek Jones, our ABTA LifeLine Chairman, took to the floor and conducted our grand auction and raffle.
There were some amazing prizes to be had, from a trip to Iceland, a cruise, a scrubs top signed by all the cast at Holby City, a Cypriot BBQ at Noel Josephides House (our version of through the key hole) to 3 hours ironing at your own home donated by a mystery guest – later to be determined as Mr Dermot Blastland. This proved a most popular prize with 15 ladies all willing to pull together to invite Dermot to a drinks and ironing event. We can’t wait for the pictures……
With Sutton Travel and Royal Caribbean pledging to support our £1 per employee appeal over £10,000 was raised for the charity.
A big thank you goes to our headline sponsors IPP, all the prize givers and those who so generously donated.
A fabulous night in all. We just don’t know how to top it next year!
